History of the Samsung Group
The Samsung Group started in March 1938 as Samsung Sanghoe, founded in Daegu by the founder, Lee Byung-cheol. Samsung Chamber of Commerce was established with a capital of 30,000 won at the time, and its main items were apples, a specialty of Daegu, and dried fish from the East Sea. While exporting to China, Japan, and Southeast Asia, Samsung Sanghoe developed a business that processed and sold agricultural products in the Yeongnam region in Korea. In 1948, the stage of business was expanded from the Yeongnam region to the metropolitan area, and in November of the same year, Samsung C&T Corporation was established in Jongno 2-ga, Jongno-gu, Seoul. From this time, the trading business was activated in earnest, and in 1950, the business prospered greatly enough to rise to the top of the domestic trading industry. In January 1951, the trade name was changed to Samsung C&T Co., Ltd. to further vitalize the trading business.
