Hello foreign students.

With the cherry blossoms falling and the petals falling, the midterm exam period for college has arrived. Korean students work very hard to prepare for the exam during the exam period, right?

I hope all international students prepare well for the exam and get good results.

Today's topic is Hanbok, the traditional clothing that Koreans love.

Have you ever tried on hanbok, international students?

Hanbok is a traditional Korean costume that has been worn by the Korean people who have lived in the Korean peninsula since ancient times.

Compared to simple men's hanbok, women's hanbok is somewhat more complicated and has many types.

The reason stems from a culture in the past where women were much dressed up and respected manners.

If you refer to the picture above, you can know the detailed parts and names of women's hanbok.

There are four types of jeogori according to their characteristics, so it's quite complicated, right?

The order in which women wear hanbok is also important. You should wear hanbok in the order of underpants - underskirt - tabi - outer skirt - underskirt - jeogori - baeja.

Particularly difficult when wearing a woman's hanbok are two things: which way to cover the back of the skirt of the hanbok and how to make the clothes look nice and pretty.

If you succeed in these two parts, you will be able to wear hanbok really cool.

It's easy to think of hanbok as 'clothes worn by people in the old days' in movies and dramas based on historical dramas. However, hanbok is not only that, but there have been various forms and many ways to wear it since a long time ago. In the long history of Korea, which boasts a 5,000-year history, Hanbok has shown many appearances according to the flow of the times. It is interesting to see how hanbok changes with the flow of the times. The shape of hanbok that is popular according to the characteristics of the era, such as war or natural disaster, is also different, and it is worn according to the position of the social status such as royalty, nobles, or commoners. Hanbok was also different.

You can rent a hanbok and try it on at most of Korea's historical sites, including Seoul's Gyeongbokgung Palace. Many Koreans and foreign tourists can also add to the fun by renting a hanbok and taking pictures wearing it. However, these colorful hanbok are not actually Korean traditional hanbok. It is a new hanbok that has been beautifully improved in modern times. Some people who see such a hanbok with colorful colors and patterns and ribbons instead of clothespins oppose it, thinking that it undermines the tradition of hanbok. On the contrary, there are many people who are in favor of these improved hanbok. It is a position that it is a good opportunity to introduce Korean traditional culture to foreigners in addition to the recently popular Korean wave and K-POP, and that improved hanbok should be accepted as a new hanbok style in the modern era.

Today, we learned about the traditional clothing of the Korean people, Hanbok.

Foreign students, what do you think is the difference between hanbok compared to the traditional clothes of your country?

Also, what is your position on the preservation of traditional hanbok and the trend of improved hanbok?

If you have studied and know the history of hanbok at least once, it will be a good opportunity to think more deeply about hanbok when you have a chance to take a photo wearing hanbok when you travel later.
