In this article, I would like to introduce you to Korean traditional musical instruments. The first instrument to introduce right away is ajaeng.

1. Korean traditional instruments; ajaeng

The ajaeng seems to be the most complex of all string instruments. Depending on the type, it consists of 7 or 8 strings. These strings are made of twisted silk fibers and are played with the help of wooden sticks. Think of a tree stick as a branch of a tree. The seven-stringed instrument is the larger of the two. It is said that what is called daeajaeng is mainly used in the orchestra, that is, in the court orchestra. Soajaeng consists of 8 strings and is commonly used in Solwa traditional music.

2. Korean traditional instruments; price

The daegeum is one of the most authentic instruments known to Korea. It consists of a mouthpiece with a closed end. This end has a membrane opening through which players can gently blow into it. This creates air pressure within the reed stem, which is said to give this instrument its characteristic buzzing sound.

3. Korean traditional instruments; Gayageum

The gayageum is a composite musical instrument invented by Uruk in the 6th century AD. A string is plucked and struck to make a sound. It consists of a soundboard made of paulownia wood and 12 movable bridges connected to 12 strings made of twisted silk. It is also said that gayageum has different designs depending on the type of music. For example, sanjo gayageum is for folk songs, pungryu gayageum is for literati music, and improved gayageum is for modern music. Munin's music is more literature-related, folk songs are traditional, and contemporary music is a form of modernism.

4. Korean traditional instruments; lyre

The geomungo consists of 16 interconnecting frets and 6 strings made of twisted silk across 3 movable bridges. The front panel is made of paulownia wood and the back panel is made of chestnut wood. It is made of bamboo and is to be played with your fingers. It is widely used in orchestras and solo performances because of its ability to produce a wide variety of intervals.

5. Korean traditional instruments; seat

The jwago is a wooden frame and nails held together by animal skins. It is hung on a tree and the musician sits on the ground and plays using a wooden stick with a tassel on one side. This drum is played by an orchestra to mark the first beat or beginning of music. It is also used to make the sound of the janggu more audible.

6. Korean traditional instruments; saenghwang

Saenghwang is a free-flowing reed wind instrument that makes sound by blowing into a wind chamber. At the other end is a windshield made of dried gourd and a plate made of several bamboos and small gold. As air flows through the reed and into the windshield, it creates air. This air is heard in the pipe and comes out in another.
