While I was looking for an exhibition worth seeing these days, I heard that the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, was holding an exhibition of Australian artist Ron Mueck. I went without hesitation because I heard that it was his first large-scale solo exhibition in Korea!
The exhibition will be on view from April 11 to July 13, 2025, so be sure to stop by when you have time! The biggest feature of Ron Mueck's work is its "surreal realism." As you can see from the photos, every wrinkle on the skin and every strand of hair is so detailed that it seems alive and breathing, giving me goosebumps. And what I especially liked was that it felt completely different depending on the angle! It looked majestic when viewed from the front, and lonely when viewed from the side... I kept moving around to appreciate it.
Everyone, this exhibition is free for those under 24! (Thanks to you, I also got another 'benefit' haha) And as far as I know, anyone can enter for free on Wednesdays, so if you go at the right time, it's a real deal! The general admission fee is 5,000 won, which is honestly very cheap considering the quality of the exhibition. If you make a reservation on the museum homepage before your visit, you will be issued a QR code. Just scan it on site and enter, and you're done!
While I was looking at the exhibition, there were a lot of people taking pictures inside the exhibition hall. But surprisingly, the atmosphere was orderly, so I was able to take pictures without worrying about what other people thought! The arrangement of the works was good, and the lighting was artistic, so even if you just take pictures, they come out like a pictorial. I want to recommend it to international students who are emotionally exhausted these days~
And the Seoul branch of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is located in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu. It’s about a 10-minute walk from Gyeongbokgung Station! Since the weather is nice, it would be nice to visit Gyeongbukgongdo after seeing the exhibition.
