Hello everyone~
Last weekend, I took a walk around Gwanghwamun Square for the first time in a long time. And while I was walking, I saw the statue of King Sejong! Today, I will introduce you to King Sejong~
This statue standing tall in the middle of Seoul was built to commemorate the 4th king of Joseon, King Sejong. It was installed in 2009 along with the construction of Gwanghwamun Square, and is now one of Korea's representative landmarks! The statue of King Sejong is about 6.2 meters tall, and including the pedestal, it is 9.5 meters in total, making it truly majestic and dignified. He is wearing a hanbok and sitting on a chair, holding a book in one hand and gently opening the other.
Then why is King Sejong so loved? It is because he created Hunminjeongeum, or Hangul. At that time, the people did not know Chinese characters, so they could not even write their own names, and it was difficult to access laws or information, but King Sejong created the Hangul, which we use today, so that the people could easily read and write! If I say this, even international students are very familiar with him, right?
And there is another hidden space under the statue of King Sejong! It is the 'Sejong Story' exhibition hall. When you enter here, you will see various contents such as the process of creating Hangul, King Sejong's achievements, and models of inventions, so if you are interested in history, you should definitely stop by. Admission is free, and there are explanations for foreigners, so it is a perfect place to visit while traveling in Korea. 😊
Today, I told you about King Sejong! Have you ever seen a statue of King Sejong?
Have a nice day everyone~
