hello!
Everyone, today we will talk about another historical symbol that you can see at Gwanghwamun Square: the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin! Admiral Yi Sun-sin is a representative soldier of the Joseon Dynasty. Let’s take a look together!
Yi Sun-sin (1545-1598) was a military officer and naval general of the Joseon Dynasty, and a hero who defended the country from the invasion of the Japanese army during the Imjin War. In particular, his strategies and tactics are recognized worldwide. Yi Sun-sin is evaluated as a leader with patriotism, leadership, and strong moral beliefs, not just a soldier!
The statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, located in Gwanghwamun Square, was built in 1968 to commemorate the achievements of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a famous general of the Joseon Dynasty. The statue, which is approximately 6.5 meters tall, depicts Admiral Yi Sun-sin in a dignified posture with a sword in hand, symbolizing his bravery and determination.
The statue is located in the center of Gwanghwamun Square between Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and Gyeongbokgung Palace, so it is easily visible to many people. Around the statue, there is a turtle ship model and a fountain commemorating the victory of the Battle of Hansando, and it is also loved as a space for citizens to rest and relax.
And I found a line from the famous drama 'Bok-sak-sok-da-soo-na' that is currently very popular on Netflix. I was walking around Gwanghwamun and when I saw this warm phrase, my heart fluttered and I felt really good. If you enjoy 'Bok-sak-sok-da-soo-na', go see it~
