Have you ever been to Cheonggyecheon Stream in Dongdaemun? I highly recommend it if you're studying abroad in Korea. Yesterday, I stopped by Dongdaemun Dundun to buy a birthday present for a friend, and then took a walk to Cheonggyecheon Stream for the first time in a while. Today, I'd like to introduce Cheonggyecheon to you all 😊
Cheonggyecheon Stream has been a natural stream that has flowed through downtown Seoul since the Joseon Dynasty. During the Japanese colonial period and the industrialization period, it was covered over and used as a road. Restoration work began in 2003, and it reopened to the public in a new form in 2005. Now, it's a representative urban rest area in Seoul, where thousands of people stroll and rest every day.
This time, I walked from near Dongdaemun Station to Gwangjang Market. This place is especially lively at night thanks to the soft lighting. Couples, friends, and even runners were all strolling along the riverside path. I was able to soak my feet in the water and enjoy the soothing sound of the water. ㅎㅎ The water was shallower than I expected, and while there was a bit of a current, it was relatively safe.
Cheonggyecheon Stream is a great place to just stroll aimlessly, but it's actually incredibly versatile. For example, it's a popular evening running spot for runners! It's also a great date spot! There are plenty of benches, and the lighting is perfect for taking photos. It's also a comfortable space for a solo stroll like mine. If, like me, you're not sure where to go after shopping in Dongdaemun, a trip to Cheonggyecheon might be a good idea.
And it's close to Gwangjang Market. I want to go to Gwangjang Market in the fall and then go to Cheonggyecheon again.
