Are our international students able to work in Korea as well as study?

Study Abroad (D-2) or General Training (D-4) is a status of residence granted for the purpose of study, so part-time work is prohibited in principle.

But you won't be able to do it right away! Before starting work , international students must report to the Immigration Office after receiving a recommendation from the person in charge of the International Student Support Center on campus.

The part-time job application process is as follows:

  1. Write an employment contract with the boss
  2. Report to the person in charge of the International Student Support Center on campus
  3. On/Offline Immigration Report
  4. notice to go to work

The process looks complicated, but it's not that complicated. Everything is to protect the rights of international students. Step 1 is to sign an employment contract with the boss. Do you need anything else? It's a "health card" . If you want to work in a restaurant, a health certificate is a must.

In other words, a health certificate is a must for business owners and employees engaged in the food hygiene industry. Basically, why is the health certificate required? It is regulated by Article 40 of the Food Sanitation Act, and it is said that inspection is required for industries where food hygiene is essential, such as food manufacturers, entertainment establishments, and group catering.

To put it simply, the reason for receiving this health certificate is to prove that there is no problem with personal hygiene even if you work at a food company, and it means to prevent the spread of infection against hygiene.

That is why you need to get a health checkup (health certificate) in advance before getting a job.

Health checkups and results are issued at public health centers and hospitals, but I recommend public health centers. This is because it is not available in all hospitals. The diagnosis fee is KRW 3,000 and can be paid in cash or by card.

It takes about 7 days from the health checkup to issuance of the result, and the issuance fee is 3,000 won (based on the public health center). So that's a total of 6,000 won.

Like me, who is too lazy to go to the public health center, you can also apply for issuance via non-face-to-face contact at https://www.e-health.go.kr/.

Does it matter if I work without a health certificate?

If the issuing person fails to issue a health certificate, a fine is incurred. Both the employee and the salesperson have to pay between 100,000 won and 3 million won.

Therefore, for the health of others, it is a positive thing to have a health checkup before getting a job. If you also want to work in the food field, be sure to get a health checkup (health certificate) issued!!!
