I managed to get over Valentine's Day and White Day somehow, but when Black Day approaches, it seems that many people get depressed again. I've experienced this before.

So from now on, I will introduce you to what kind of day Black Day is.

First of all, as you can see from the picture, Black Day is April 14th .

Those who did not receive gifts on Valentine's Day and White Day...

In other words, it is known as the day when singles or those without a lover eat jajangmyeon. You can generally think of this day as a day when singles gather to eat jajangmyeon, talk, and share their depression.

It is not known exactly when and how Black Day began, but it is known that it was first mentioned in newspapers in the 1990s. The name Black Day is derived from White Day. White Day is an anniversary for couples, and Black Day is a day for singles. That's why April 14th, which passed a few days ago, is expressed as Black Day.

Some people have opinions that Black Day was born as a marketing, but these criticisms are not so groundless. The reason for this is that general Jajangmyeon is a typical black day food, so it is not an exclusive product of a particular company. Of course, there are places where Chinese restaurants are holding jajangmyeon discount events on this day, but overall, there is no big change.

Still, it happens every year that singles get together and eat jajangmyeon together, and this can actually be comforting to many people. Eating jajangmyeon, sharing my gloomy feelings, and thinking that there will be another opportunity next time on Valentine's Day or White Day.

I first heard about Black Day from my Korean friends. In my freshman year of college, most of my friends were solo, so we all ordered and ate jajangmyeon together on Black Day.

Of course, the way Black Day is celebrated can vary from person to person. But what Black Day means is that you can empathize and be comforted by being with others, not alone. Even if you don't have a lover, you won't be lonely, and you can make new friends while being with people who celebrate this day. And memories with them can be a special experience different from usual.

On this Black Day, April 14th, a jajangmyeon chain store run by the most famous chef in Korea held an event to sell jajangmyeon for 3,000 won for just one day.
