CJ Group History

In August 1953, immediately after the ceasefire of the Korean War, Hoam Lee Byeong-cheol established Cheil Jedang in Jeonpo-dong, Busan, Gyeongsangnam-do. CJ Group’s relationship with Samsung

CJ Group is also an independent company that was once part of Samsung, but its relationship with Samsung is not as good as expected. CJ Group and the famous movie theater CGV

CGV, the most influential multiplex nationwide in Korea, is also a CJ affiliate, and in addition to theaters, CJ also distributes most of its movies directly through CJ ENM MOVIE (CJ Entertainment)! It was established in 1996 by CheilJedang Group, Hong Kong Golden Harvest (now Orange Sky Golden Harvest), and Australia's Village Roadshow Pictures. Afterwards, the name was changed to CJ CGV to clearly indicate that it was part of the CJ Group.

If you are interested in K-pop or music, you know Mnet. Mnet is CJ Entertainment’s music broadcast. Currently, CJ owns the copyright to about half of the popular music used in Korea. With this influence at the forefront, their influence in the popular music market is also greatly expanding, such as by holding the MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) on a large scale.
