Tani's Story

My experience as a Korean student from Vietnam

I am an international student from Vietnam, currently a senior in the Department of Tourism and Convention Studies at Pusan National University. I am learning Korean language and culture while studying abroad, and I am also doing various extracurricular activities and part-time jobs. The reason I first came to Korea was because I wanted to learn about Korea’s world-famous education system and tourism industry. Living in Korea has been an important experience for me in learning both language and culture.

Difficulties experienced in dormitory life

In Korea, I mostly lived in school dormitories. The biggest problem I felt while living in Pusan National University's female dormitory was the food. The food provided in the dormitory did not suit my taste, and the menu was often repeated. Also, because the building was built in 2018, the dormitory fee was a bit high. In this regard, I considered other housing options, but I am staying in the dormitory because of its safety and convenience.

Ways to improve the dormitory environment

As a solution to the inconvenience of dormitory life, I would like to suggest the autonomy of meal selection. If the dormitory-provided meal service is optional rather than mandatory, I think students will be able to cook food that suits their taste freely. Also, if the kitchen in the dormitory is improved to be wider and more convenient, students will be able to cook for themselves, which will greatly improve their quality of life.

To friends preparing to study abroad in Korea

The most important thing for friends preparing to study abroad in Korea is language skills. In order to live and study in Korea, you need to be able to communicate at a basic level, so it is a good idea to prepare some Korean. Also, it may take time to get used to Korean food, so it will be a great help to bring home food to eat at first. Lastly, if you research and prepare enough information about life in Korea in advance, you will be able to have a much easier study abroad life.

I hope this article will be of some help to my friends who dream of studying abroad in Korea, and I would also like to express my gratitude to the Kikine family. Thanks to you, I have been able to access useful information and knowledge, which has made my life in Korea much easier!
