hello!
Everyone, these days are the Korean New Year holidays. New Year is one of the most important traditional holidays in Korea. International students, what are you doing during the New Year holidays? Today, let's learn about the Korean New Year~
In Korea, Seollal is a time when families gather to pay respects to their ancestors and celebrate the beginning of the new year together. Seollal is usually a three-day holiday, but this year’s Seollal holiday is a little longer. Seollal is not just a holiday to spend time with family and express gratitude to ancestors, but a day to celebrate the beginning of the year and share new hopes and resolutions. This day is a time when people are filled with positive energy and has a special meaning to everyone.
Korean New Year's Day has many traditions and customs. One of the important customs of New Year's Day is Sebae. Sebae is a tradition where young people bow to their elders for the New Year. The elders who receive the New Year's greetings give them words of wisdom and usually give them New Year's money. And one of the foods that must be eaten on New Year's Day is tteokguk. Tteokguk symbolizes that you have grown a year older as you welcome the New Year. Have you eaten tteokguk?
It is important to convey Seollal greetings with warmth and respect. Here are some Seollal greetings. First, here are some greetings you can send to your Korean friends. You can say, "Happy New Year! Let's make lots of good memories together this year!", "I hope you are always healthy and happy in the New Year! I look forward to working with you this year! 😊." International students should also send greetings to their professors. For example, "Hello, Professor! I hope you have a happy New Year and stay healthy and achieve all your goals this year.", or "I hope you have a warm and happy Seollal holiday despite the cold weather. I look forward to teaching you a lot this year, and I hope you have a healthy and happy year!"
