1️⃣ Introduction of Korea Ice Bucket Challenge

The Ice Bucket Challenge is a relay donation campaign conducted to bring attention to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease) and to help patients with Lou Gehrig's disease.

Some people may not know what Lou Gehrig's disease is. Lou Gehrig's disease is a disease in which the brain cells that control muscle movement are destroyed and muscles are lost, and bundles of motor nerves in the spinal cord harden.

This campaign started in 2014. At that time, Pete Fratz, a former Boston University baseball player, had Lou Gehrig's disease and had to give up his dreams. Pete's friends looked at him and, in order to feel the pain of Lou Gehrig's disease together, took an ice-water shower, noticing the phenomenon that muscles contract when cold water hits them.

2️⃣ Korean Celebrities Ice Bucket Challenge

These days, a lot of celebrities in Korea participate in this campaign, upload a video of them being covered with ice water on social media, and then nominate the next three challengers to continue donating in a relay. A lot of celebrities such as IU, Park Bo-gum, Im Si-wan, Lee Joo-young, Lee Do-hyun, and Dex participated.

IU participated in all three Ice Bucket Challenges in 2014, 2018 and 2023. IU donated 50 million won by pouring ice water on it. Lee Young-ji donated 10 million won to the foundation and actor Lee Do-hyun donated 10 million won.
