Located at 567-12 Cheonbosan-ro (Tapdong-dong), Dongducheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, this is a theme park-type studio created with the motif of Kyoto in the Edo period in Japan. This place was the remainder of the training ground for the US Army units stationed in Dongducheon. Director Kim Jae-hyung, who was a director of historical dramas, noticed that in the past, when filming historical dramas, there was no open set that expressed Japan, so the cost of drama production would increase significantly when filming on location in Japan. As a result, in 2012, with director Kim Jae-hyeong's wish to build a drama set that could replace the local location, the site was prepared by purchasing a training ground for a US military base. It wasn't fast after that, but little by little, I had the current look, and I opened it to the public for the first time in 2021.

Features of Nijimori Studio in Korea

First-time visitors are often surprised to discover that such a beautiful place is hidden in a secluded mountain where there are few people, and the surprise begins at the entrance.

After purchasing your ticket from the ticket vending machine, open the heavy wooden door and you'll see a street lined with shops on both sides. These stores are the market place at the core of Nijimori Studio, and they are intended to create a content cultural complex with a story expressing the Edo period, and to establish a leisurely entertainment culture, rather than simply being a theme park with the form of Japanese-style architecture.

Each store creates a virtuous cycle in which individual creators make and sell their own items in this space, and create profits by composing the story of the entire Nijimori studio here.

Nijimori Studio is not just a beautiful place, but a center of content culture that expands the importance and beneficial influence of the cultural industry.

Nijimori Studio Accommodation in Korea

There are accommodations in Nijimori Studio. It is a facility that reproduces the ryokan, a traditional Japanese hot spring inn, with private hinoki baths and outdoor open-air baths for each room size, so it is the perfect place to enjoy a rest in a quiet place.

Although the price per night is high, the reason why there are always many people visiting this place is that it reproduces the feeling of a local Japanese ryokan that you can never feel anywhere else in Korea.

At Nijimori Studio's ryokan, you can spend a lively time different from a quiet and secluded atmosphere, not only providing accommodations, but also renting kimonos, experiencing tea ceremonies, and holding events by season.

Since the ryokan is composed of an independent space within the Nijimori Studio, you can relax comfortably without worrying about non-staying visitors.

If you are thinking about where to go to enjoy the night view in the suburbs of Seoul, this is the place where you can feel the exotic atmosphere. Open until 9 p.m., the sun goes down, the street lamps shine, and the pond in the center reflects the scenery of the studio like a mirror, which is truly spectacular.

One downside is that, according to the studio management policy, only adults over the age of 19 are allowed to enter, making it difficult for family outings to visit.
