Are dormitories mandatory?

International students in Korea can live in the school's dormitory or rent a private room outside. But usually, before being allowed to live outside, it is mandatory to stay in a dormitory for 6 months, in the case of language learning. There are also optional fields, it's up to each school. Like the Pusan ​​school I am attending, language students are required to stay in the dormitory for 6 months, then they will be allowed to go out. As for the case of bachelor's and master's as well as doctorate, it is not mandatory, it is the right of each person to choose.

What is the dormitory like at Pusan ​​National University?

Currently, I have been living in a dormitory at the school since I entered school, it has been more than 3 and a half years so far. My school has 3 cheats, everyone can choose. I'm in Jajoo at Busan branch. I am very satisfied with the girls' dormitory at my school. Modern and spacious facilities, the location is also very convenient for going to class every day. The male dormitory is a bit far, located on the top corner of the school.

Each room here is always 2 people 1 room, has its own bathroom and toilet, and its own wardrobe. There is also a balcony where you can dry your clothes. There is also a room for 1 person, but it is difficult to register. As for the male dormitory, it's a bit inconvenient, the toilet is shared, I've heard of it but haven't seen it.

The time in and out of the dormitory of my school is also quite comfortable compared to other schools. Normally from 1am to 5am is curfew, while for exams it is 3 to 5am.

I am also very satisfied with the security, there is always a security guard on duty 24/24 and cameras everywhere. Pretty safe for women. Access here especially requires a card, because the elevator or the gate or the room and electricity must have a card. Just like the hotel.

Part of this dormitory was just built in 2018, so the cost is still quite expensive. The main semester fluctuates around 1 million 7 won (5 days 3 meals) and 9 hundred thousand won in the summer. This cost includes electricity and water and management fee. My dormitory is required to register with rice, there is no kitchen to cook. The kitchen is only for Muslim friends!

How to register for the Dormitory?

My school is divided into main and summer semesters. The main semester will be registered at the International Office, in the summer, you will register directly through the dormitory. There is a main homepage of the dormitory so it is easy to register, check the information there. As for the summer, the first phase is via the homepage, the second phase is to register via the link. Each occasion is a different way to register, many different registrations, a different cost, and so is the time. So if you intend to stay in the dormitory, you must check the notice promptly through the homepage of that dormitory.

In my school, the Korean dormitory competition rate is very high, based on credit scores. As for foreigners, it will be easier, no points will be considered. But also should not be subjective.

How do I pay for the Dormitory?

Usually each school has a different payment method. But usually there will be a certain number of temporary accounts to transfer money to, the account holder's name is the student's name (가상계좌). As I just registered for the summer dormitory in the 2nd batch, I had to shoot directly into the KTX's account number with my name.

If you are overseas and have not yet entered Korea, you can also pay. Like my school, I will pay by Visa or Master card.

Should I stay in a dormitory?

I think everyone thinks differently about this. In my opinion, if you are a person who focuses on studying, you should stay at home, and many of my friends choose to stay outside because they still work part-time. And people who like to cook should not choose the dormitory because you will be pressured like me, bored of eating in the dormitory.

The economy is limited, fear of this or that (there will be cases of being cheated, losing money, bla bla) should also stay in the dormitory. Summer is not afraid of heat, Winter is not afraid of cold.

What to pay attention to!

Follow the rules of the dormitory, avoid being deducted points. Because my school is deducted more than 3 points will not be able to register again. Or, in some cases, they even got kicked out.
