Everyone, do you know what the very famous Goyeonjeon (Yonkojeon) is in Korea? Today, we will introduce you to the Ko-Yon Tournament, which will be held in Korea from September 8 to September 9, 2023!

1️⃣ Introduction of the name of the Korea-Korea-Yon-Korea Championships

The Ko-Yon Tournament includes two schools. These are Yonsei University and Korea University. The Korea-Yon-Korea Tournament is a regular university event held annually between Yonsei University and Korea University.

So when do we call it a Ko-Yon-Korea match and when do we call it a Yo-Kon-Korea match? When hosted by Yonsei University, this regular exhibition is called the 'Ko-Yon-Korean Game', and when hosted by Korea University, it is called the 'Yon-Korea Tournament'. And there are rules. In odd-numbered years, Yonsei University becomes the home team, and in even-numbered years, Korea University becomes the home team. That’s why this year, 2023, is called the Go-Yonjeon.

The Goyeonjeon (Yonkojeon) is an event that dates back to 1926, during the Japanese colonial period, at Boseong College and Yeonhui College. At that time, it was called Boyeonjeon (Yeonbojeon). Afterwards, the two schools were promoted from junior colleges to universities in 1946, and from then on, Korea University and Yonhee University began competing in soccer and basketball, and in 1956, Yonsei University's baseball and Korea University's rugby were added and exchange matches took place.

3️⃣ 2023 Korea Ko-Yeon Championships

Since the coronavirus pandemic is over this year, you can watch and cheer without a mask. We will introduce the schedule for the 2023 Ko-Yonjeon. On September 8th , there will be an opening ceremony at 10 o'clock and baseball game at 11 o'clock. There is ice hockey at 14:00 and basketball at 17:00. On September 9th, there is rugby at 11:00, soccer at 14:00, and the Chamsaligil Festival from 19:00 to 22:00. International students at Korea University and Yonsei University can refer to this and go directly to support it.
