Today, I'd like to share some study tips for the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) for those of you preparing to study abroad in Korea or already studying in Korea. I hope this helps. I still vividly remember how daunting it felt when I first started learning Korean. At first, the pronunciation was difficult and the grammar was complex, and I wondered, "Will I ever be able to do it?" I've now achieved Level 6 (270 points)! If you study consistently, you too can achieve great results.

1️⃣ Learn vocabulary steadily, a little bit every day

First, vocabulary is incredibly important. Honestly, I think the TOPIK exam is a battle of words. Whether you're reading or listening, your score is ultimately determined by how many words you know. I aimed to memorize 50 words a day. Of course, it wasn't easy. Still, I still remember the days when I prepared for the TOPIK exam, writing them down in my notebook and memorizing them.

2️⃣ Pronunciation!

And when I first started learning Korean, the most difficult thing for me was pronunciation. Looking back, I think pronunciation is incredibly important. While I could easily memorize the letters, when I actually spoke them out loud, I often found them awkward and incorrect. Consonants like "ㄷ" and "ㅈ" in particular had different pronunciations depending on the word, so it was crucial to learn the differences accurately. International students, you'll be living in Korea for a long time, so you'll understand the importance of pronunciation when communicating with Koreans.

3️⃣ Topic writing section!

The final step is writing. Did you know that there's a "formula" for the TOPIK writing section, not just a "feel"? Maintaining a structure is more important than writing long sentences. For example, using connectives like "firstly, also, and therefore" appropriately creates a much more logical impression. I practiced by repeatedly using a TOPIK textbook with lots of example sentences. I recommend practicing along with the textbook. Also, at the intermediate and advanced levels, memorizing a few introduction and conclusion sentences is incredibly convenient. You can just write them out for the test!
